For a place with no other parking near by why is the parking not included in the price??? Really off putting with the signs saying PAY YOUR PARKING multiple time in the car park and reception area On arrival there was nobody about at reception or in the bar. The 1 person that was about was not trained to do either. I was there to go to a wedding and there were lots of folk about waiting to have drinks or check in and no staff! 5:30 they all descended. I eventually got checked in my the chef!! Saying all this our room was ok, bed was comfy and you can open the window, it was a warm weekend so was nice to open it. The main areas were Nicky decorated but the rooms could do with a refresh. The food in the restaurant was also nice, not a huge selection but enough and breakfast buffet style was also nice. All the staff were very friendly and nice.

Spotlessly clean room with fantastic view over the harbour and town. Comfortable, enjoyable and relaxing. Management and staff could not have been more helpful. Lovely terrace where you can sit outside with a drink, taking in the amazing scenery. We will return!

A very tired old building, would need a good couple of million to put it right. Good points - good internet and good breakfast. A charge of £9.60 for one nights parking is a little on the high side, especially when taken from your credit card without permission.

A good stay in this hotel. Good view of the harbour and the sea from our room. The room was basic but clean. Bed was comfortable. Some black mould by shower and the shower head required a clean. Effective shower though(despite the small area of mould) We ate in the hotel on our second night. Excellent food in good surroundings. Staff excellent. Having to pay for parking is not acceptable though

Stayed here whilst on business stop over & in main due to what I witnessed & read on the Hotels website. Seems much disparity from what is on there, to what you actually get & would strongly suggest potential guests take head of the reviews & not what is on the Hotel website. First thing that was a shock & certainly a surprise, was the now charging for Car parking & at £6.50 per day. Not mentioned on website not when booking with Reception directly. Thankfully my stay was one night, but if it had been say a few nights & a weeks stay, would have parked off road somewhere, as that forking out for could easily add up & be better spent. Second thing that hit me on entering room was, the total rundown state my sea view double was in. Peeling paint on stiff to open Windows, dirty furniture & stained marked Radiators. Plenty papered over cracks also on show, to further underline the overall drab state of the to be stayed in room. I will say this, there was sea view, but so lost in the general state of room & so not what the Hotel website suggests & shows what awaits you when booking. Perhaps they have taken some rooms recently done up & shown as what awaits you & then when you get there, then say due to being so busy you were given one of the older rooms. Either way, the being charged for v show & suggested, do not tally & be prepared to be let down on expected stay accommodation experience. On food, well never have I stayed in a Hotel that does not serve any through the day food (Bar Lounge at least ) until then after 6pm. Given I had travelled 6+ hours to get to the Hotel, a Sandwich at least to stave off the hunger pains would have been the least expected. So having to wait 2 hours until then, it was off elsewhere to seek some food. I was glad to check out next morning & get on with my works in area & put the had stay to the back of my mind. Such a shame, as know the area well from having parents past live in the village & when this Hotel & others near, boasted being both very good for food & accommodation experience. But that was a good 15-20 years ago & so much decline has happened since, without out many such as the Portpatrick Hotel not keeping up with the times & maintaining standards. I appreciate that maintenance & keeping up standards costs money, but don't charge what you do & portray, when they do not match the to be had experience. In an ideal world, such a beautiful positioned, with the right Hotel brand behind it, could turn it in to something so very , very special. But only see more decline in current ownership & eventually it either being tuned in to a Care Home, or worse still am asylum run Hotel.

Check in was fine although we had an issue with our room, which was sorted out really quickly. We were on the top floor, facing the harbour. Great view, tiny room but well equipped and clean. Bed was solid! We were told the hotel was full but didn't really notice, however breakfast was a shambles. The kitchen team obviously weren't prepared for a buffet breakfast as everything ran out several times and the time it took for fresh food to come out was ridiculous, and one thing at a time as if they were only cooking one thing at a time. Nobody came to ask if we wanted toast but we were offered tea and coffee. The 2 young lads in the restaurant were doing their best at breakfast but it eas plain to see they were woefully understaffed. No complaints about the quality of the breakfast food though, and the place is very clean. Others have complained about parking but the receptionist took our registration details and we didn't need to pay. The best thing about the hotel is the location and views, both perfect.
